Custom Branded Hotel Amenities: How Hotel Groups Build Their Own Line

Set of branded hotel amenity bottles and guest toiletries arranged in a hotel bathroom

Custom branded hotel amenities are guest toiletries and essentials produced under the hotel's own brand identity rather than a third-party amenity brand: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and soap carrying the property's name, scent, and design language, along with the dry kit items that complete the room. For a growing number of hotel groups, the amenity line has shifted from a procurement afterthought to a brand asset guests photograph, remember, and sometimes ask to buy.

This guide explains the levels of customization available, what the development process actually looks like with a manufacturer, and the questions that protect you from a line that looks right but performs badly.

The customization spectrum

Custom does not have to mean built from scratch. Amenity programs sit on a spectrum, and knowing where you want to be keeps both cost and timeline honest:

  • Branded label on a proven formula. The manufacturer's existing formulations carry your brand and packaging design. Fastest to launch and lowest risk, and how many boutique programs sensibly start.
  • Custom scent on a proven base. The formulation stays, but the fragrance is developed or matched to your property's signature scent, which is often the single most memorable customization. Our guide to signature scent strategy covers how groups approach this.
  • Fully bespoke formulation. Formula, fragrance, and packaging all developed to your brief. The longest development cycle and the highest minimums, justified when the amenity line is genuinely part of the brand proposition, such as a spa-led resort or a retail-crossover line.

These levels map directly onto the white label, ODM, and OEM sourcing models used across personal care, which we compare in our retail sourcing guide.

Wet and dry: scoping the full line

A coherent program covers both wet amenities, the liquid and soap products such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, and bar soap, and dry amenities, the kit items such as dental kits, vanity kits, combs, and slippers. Branding both to the same standard is what makes a room feel considered. Scoping them with one manufacturer simplifies logistics into consolidated shipments rather than parallel supply chains. See our wet amenities and dry amenities ranges for what each covers.

The development process with a manufacturer

A typical custom amenity program moves through five stages: a brief covering positioning, formats, and target cost per occupied room; fragrance and formulation direction, where you evaluate scent options against your brand; sampling and approval, where physical samples are tested in real bathrooms rather than meeting rooms; artwork and packaging confirmation, including regulatory label checks for every market your properties operate in; then production and a delivery schedule matched to your occupancy cycle. Where the calendar lands depends mostly on how far along the customization spectrum you go, which is why the spectrum decision comes first.

Questions to ask before you commit

  • Does the manufacturer produce both wet and dry amenities, or will the dry kit be traded in from elsewhere?
  • Can they match or develop a fragrance, and hold it consistent across products and batches?
  • What certifications stand behind the factory, and which apply to the amenity lines specifically?
  • How do they handle dispenser formats alongside bottled amenities? Many groups now run both, and the cost and sustainability math is covered in our dispensers vs bottled amenities analysis.
  • What does the reorder cycle look like once the line is established, and how much lead time does a repeat production run need?
